Hi Ian, I had this before, was a blown fuse, is a 3A SMD fuse, If you not find it I will look again in the squematic, I could not find any SMD fuse in the electronic shop only a bigger one, round shape in a plastic case with two legs, I soldered acroos the little SMD, putting some solder in the traces first, did not have any more problems and works ok with the battery and easy to replace. 73, Jaime EA6NB. --- In FT817@yahoogroups.com, "Ian Frith" wrote: Thanks Cortland appreciate that i found the thread you mentioned, blown fuse f1001. I have had another problem with the rig. it will not operate on internal batteries of any type.!!.. at all, i.e it will function fine with external 13.0v , remove the dc jack and it dies for a great FAQ ( Frequently Asked Questions ) see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FT817/database Some really good technical info at: http://www.ussc.com/~turner/ft817pg.shtml ================================================================================ Date: Sat, 14 Feb 2004 09:26:13 -0800 From: "Leigh L. Klotz, Jr." Subject: Re: Switching power supplies and the FT 817 I have the MFJ supply. It makes a little noise all the time, so I occasionally unplug it when listening for weak stations and plug it in for strong ones. It sometimes squeals but stops (or shifts) when I squeeze it. I called MFJ yesterday. They suggested bypassing it with a .1-1uF cap and said you can open it with a torx under two of the rubber feet. I haven't that yet but I suppose it could be done externally. For hfpacking I use a pack of 2250 mAH NiMH AA's mounted externally but I don't take a charger for them, which you would need for longer trips. But they do provide clean power, as does my Coleman 10AH car starter, but it is huge! I also ordered one of the 5200mAH Li+ DVD batteries w/charger reported on HFPack and will try that. By the way, Plugging and unplugging a supply when on internal battery has the disadvantage that the '817 shifts down to 2.5W (LIII) and you have to press the PWR button to get it back to 5W (blinking LIII).
