Back in those early days reports were just starting to surface what everyone thought it was an 16 Khz tone. The 8 KHz service bulletin issued by Icom dated March 14, 2006 Ref NO: ZSM0010 states: From PCB boards version "B6250K" onwards, all LOT manufactured according to this modification. Serial numbers has not yet been fixed. We will announce when S/N is fixed. For some previous Icom radios, S/N 2000 seemed to be the watershed for an unofficial "Rev. Level 2" incorporating fixes for issues revealed by the ARRL and RSGB lab test suites. This may also be true for the IC-7000. I guessed that S/N 0501500 was safe, because serial numbers were still running at around 1200 - 1300 when the 8K tone was first reported. 0502000 may well be a better guess. But it is only a guess; serial numbers are now runing above 0503000. The most reliable check would be to look at the Logic Unit board version number. According to SB # ZSM00010, version B6250K and higher will include the fix. Of course, one can hardly open up a radio at a dealer's prior to paying for it; perhaps some group members who have received high-S/N IC-7000's will be willing to have a quick peek at the Logic Unit. Icom released the SB on 3/14/2006, so the B6250K boards may have started shipping as of that date or thereabouts. Would you be willing to take a peek inside your IC-7000 and post the Logic Unit version code? I hadn't had my 7000 open or even applied power to it yet. I just opened up bottom and couldn't find any i.d. there. Top side has two boards, B6249J and B6249K that I can identify. I guess that means that mine is not a late "fixed" version. Again, my s/n is 0503131. I quoted PCB board B6249H, this is the main circuit board, I should have quoted the Logic Unit circuit board number which is B6250I for my radio. The Logic Unit circuit board number with its version letter is located on the bottom side of the Logic Unit. Unfortunately, the Logic Unit must be removed from the radio in order to see the number. Fortunately the number is viewable through a large cut out area in the metal case just adjacent of the large plug-in connector. This is it: Good Afternoon...... Thanks for your e-mail. The tone that you mention is not present on all radios, and originally, our service department could not reproduce the tone because it wasn't present on our test radios. If a radio has this tone, our service department will address the issue on a case-by-case basis and all you would need to do is contact the service department either by e-mail at: service@icomamerica.com or by telephone at: 425-454-8155 and they will provide you advise to sending the radio to our facility. Also, you can see shipping instruction on our web site (www.icomamerica.com) under the "Support" and then "Service Centers" heading. Hope this will help. They take away the 8 kHz tone, they configure TV-reception for Sweden and they modify the transmitter sound. Does this indicate that the 8 kHz tone is not corrected by ICOM yet? Every radio in Sweden is sold with a statement that the 8 kHz tone is removed. ============================================================================= From: "Adam Farson" farson@shaw.ca Date: Sun May 14, 2006 5:29pm(PDT) Subject: Re: Tone Issue Current-production units (S/N > 0503000) should be OK. I'm also told that Icom has cleaned up this problem in the new releases of the product. Can anyone tell me what serial number and beyond would indicate this modification by Icom. ============================================================================= From: "copmannd@aol.com" copmannd@aol.com Date: Sun May 14, 2006 7:47pm(PDT) Subject: Re: TVRO issue Does anyone know if ICOM has made the TVRO mod irreversible.
