Doug VA7DD ======================================================================== To: icom@mailman.qth.net From: Gary Fiber Subject: Re: [Icom] Problem With Dual-Bander Doug, The problem is most likely cracked solder joints on the SMD connector that connects the control board to the main front panel board. Icom had a replacement " Board " that was a ribbon cable that the connectors and controls attach to. The problem appears to have been the pressing on the controls would eventually cause the solder joints around the SMD connector to crack. So you would loose the right control of the radio. You will probably have to remove the control nuts from the controls to get the little board out of the face. A service manual exploded view would be best to look at to see what how it is assembled. Gary Fiber K8IZ =========================================================================== From: "SM4RNA Anders Janis" To: Subject: SV: [Icom] Problem With Dual-Bander At http://www.icomamerica.com/support/troubleshooting/vhf-uhf.html you can find: Symptom: Any of the following: Cannot change band to UHF, no UHF volume or squelch control, no UHF tuning, or strange-sounding beep tone. Cure: Rework bad soldering at J3 connector on display unit and replace the SW-B board with a factory-modified flex PC board. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Symptom: No audio output from receiver. Cure: Remove excessive solder on the Main-A unit near the audio amp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Symptom: Howling if volume is turned up when using UHF. Probable Cause: Microphonics in VCO section. Cure: Resolder the ground spring at the UHF VCO shield. You may also add a second spring for further improved resistance to microphonics. I had the same problem. Did not manage to repair or find parts. de Anders SM4RNA ---------- Fran: icom-admin@mailman.qth.net [mailto:icom-admin@mailman.qth.net]For Bill NY9H Skickat: den 22 oktober 2003 01:34 Till: icom@mailman.qth.net Amne: Re: [Icom] Problem With Dual-Bander if it's anything like the later 2700; the connectivity back there is terrible. They used a smd plug on one board and a smd jack on another board, and the connectors were not that hot to start. My 2700 was back to Bellvue, three times the first year. The first time they 'updated' with a mod to fix the problem. They actually sent out to Atlanta to have the fix done. Turns out they did it wrong....back to Bellvue. Then again about three yewars ago , and again last month. I actually better start using the radio again to verify the repair. lotsa luck... the disassembly isn't for the faint of heart... and I forgot , an don't want to jinx my last repair .... good luck bill so it still have my 2700, 2 x 2710 really like that one, a 207 and a 2710.. still sorting out which is my favorite...it will take months bill At 04:41 PM 10/21/03, Davies, Doug A FOR:EX wrote: >I'm having a problem with my 2340H.
