All the smoke leaks out. At least that's what happened with mine. I called Icom, told them what happened and that it was 6 months out of warranty. They said I may qualify for a production upgrade. I sent it to them with a letter that literally said "All the smoke leaked out. Please refill with new smoke and patch the holes where the leak occurred." The sent me a new radio. Can somebody tell me the symptoms that would indicate that the finals have been blown? 73, Ryan ============================================================================== Make sure you have good coax !!!!! and make sure there is a good ground !!!! The 2720's had low audio .. you could move it up via the menu also try the different IF .. ( in the menu) also do you have the same 'noise' when you are on the right and left side??? do a search in the group for low audio .. ( both groups 2720 and 2720H) I hope this helps .. you also might need a line filter KEEP the Ground wire on your righ AS SHORT AS POSIBLE this will also help with noise ... It was an early s/n: 0502516, so I sent it to ICOM in WA state. They returned it in about two weeks with the mod done, and a new microphone...all done under warranty!! The rig was about six months out of warranty. Way to go, ICOM!! Love the rig, works great with a bit of intermod here in Tucson. The problem is though that there's not a lot of room for the cable coming out of the bottom of the antenna to make the twist. Hmm, just checking some RG-58 cable I have. Actually that does make a pretty tight turn. I'll definitely look into this option as well. >as for wires and plugs it just might be time .. if you get plugs .. get >the ones with the R .. what it means I don't remember right now .. ) >but it helps keep the RF down .. Yup. All that makes sense. First thing we'll do though is reroute the cable so as to keep it another foot or so from the engine and the spark plug wires. What I didn't make clear was that this is in my car. And it's only a problem when the motor is running. It's not a problem caused by the heater fan either. >The 2720's had low audio .. you could move it up via the menu >also try the different IF .. ( in the menu) I did just see that low audio setting after I posted this when I was poking about in the Icom Yahoo groups. >also do you have the same 'noise' when you are on the right and left >side ??? Not sure what you mean on this. Ah, rig not right. Ok, but it's on the car so I don't see how this affects me. What we will try is reroute the antenna cable so as to keep it as far from the motor and ignition wires as possible. ( for cars and trucks) one other thing it could be is your plugs and wires .. I use the best Ican afford cuz the cheepies cause problems all the time .. again if before you want to change your plugs and wires put the filter on.. best of luck Rick -------------------------------------------------.
